US President Donald Trump characterized his recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “very productive,” emphasizing discussions on artificial intelligence (AI) and future collaboration between the two nations. The meeting took place at the White House on September 24.
Trump noted that the talks included a focus on AI, with a particular interest in referring to advanced artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence.” He suggested that President Xi appeared open to this terminology.
In contrast, President Xi called for enhanced cooperation between the United States and China concerning AI development. Highlighting the significant capabilities of both countries in this field, Xi advocated for a collaborative approach that includes dialogue alongside competition.
Xi further proposed discussions on the potential risks and benefits associated with AI, urging joint efforts to prevent its misuse and ensure it remains under human control. He stressed the importance of AI serving broader human interests.
This meeting marked the second encounter between Trump and Xi within a six-month period. It occurred amidst ongoing advancements in AI technologies by both countries, which continue to debate the necessary safeguards and oversight for AI development.
