Trump Rejects Peace Proposals, Declares Iran Ceasefire on ‘Life Support’

by admin477351

President Donald Trump has expressed serious doubts about the viability of the ceasefire with Iran, describing it as being on “life support.” He is contemplating resuming U.S. Navy escorts for ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz to counteract the Iranian blockade of this crucial maritime route. Trump rejected Iran’s peace proposals, labeling them as nonsensical, and denied facing any internal pressure to strike an agreement.

Speaking about the ceasefire that has been in place since April 7, Trump stated, “I would call it the weakest, right now, after reading that piece of garbage they sent us – I didn’t even finish reading it.” He further compared the situation to a medical emergency, suggesting the ceasefire has a slim chance of survival. Last week, the U.S. presented Iran with a set of conditions aimed at de-escalating the conflict, focusing primarily on curbing Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. However, over the weekend, Iran responded with counter-proposals that Trump summarily dismissed.

Previously, Trump halted “Project Freedom,” a plan designed to escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, after just two days. The pause was intended to give Iran time to consider his peace proposals. The escort plan faced opposition from Saudi Arabia, which refused to allow its airspace or bases to be used for what it perceived as an escalatory measure. Trump’s latest remarks follow a spike in oil prices prompted by Iran’s stance that no further negotiations would take place regarding the blockade unless its terms were accepted.

Maj Gen Mohammad Ali Jafari, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, outlined Iran’s conditions, stating that there would be no further talks unless specific demands were met. These include ending the conflict on all fronts, lifting sanctions, releasing blocked funds, compensating for war damages, and recognizing Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. The situation remains tense as both sides grapple with these unresolved issues.
